TERRITORIAL GYMKHANA HAWERA.

THURSDAY

Arrangements are well in hand for,: the big military gymkhana to be heldHi under the auspices of the Egm6lsv A. and P. Association on the show grounds, Hawera, to-morrow. The

tournament is the first of its kind in Taranaki, and from the entries received this year promises to develop into an annual fixture of importance, following somewhat on the lines of the big military tourney held annually at Palmerston North. Territorials and Cadets, both mounted and infantry, will be present from the majority of Companies throughout Taranaki and the Wanganui military areas, and the competition in the several events promises to be keen and of a high order. Crack teams from New Plymouth to Wanganui and the back country will provide strong contests. The Gymkhana was adopted for the purpose of encouraging skill with arms, discipline and general efficiency, fostering "esprit de corps" and to act as an incentive for the individual Territorial and Cadet to improve his training. Liberal trophies have been provided for all events and these will be handed to the successful competitors in the evening at the Winter Show Buildings by His Worship the Mayor. The Mounted Band, the Queen Alexandra's Own 2nd Eegimental Band and the Taranaki Pipere will head the massed parade from the Hawera station at 10.45 a.m. and will give selections throughout the day. Afternoon tea and luncheon may be had throughout the day. The programme commences at 11 a.m. sharp, finishing at 4 p.m., so that visitors may attend the Winter Show either before or after the Gymkhana. Given fine weather an extremely successful and entertaining display is anticipated.
