A COURT MISTAKE. [Per Press Association.] Gisborne, June 23. Judgment in the case Mackenzie and Johnstone (the latter clerk of the Magistrate's Court) v. L>r. flatten and Mr Finn, solicitor, for the return of money paid out of court by mistake, was given by Mr Barton, S.M., in favor of plaintiffs. Leave to appeal was refused. THE KAIRAKI. Christchurch, June 23. The Kaiapoi Shipping and Trading Company have received advice from Captain Scott that their coastal steamer Kairaki was hauled off the spit at Karamea on this morning's tide, by her own steam and the use of a strong steel hawser. The steamer came off undamaged, and is now at the wharf. It is understood that some of the cargo of timber was jettisoned when the vessel went aground on Friday, but a good deal will be recoverable. The stranding would not have happened but for a mishap which took place in the steam pipe at the time of crossing the bar.

At a meeting of the local Band Contest Committee held last night, it was decided-'that unless the South Island Band Association agreed to the appointment of Mr Percy Jones as adjudicator the committee would not accept the appointment of any other adjudicator.
