A. H. Broadhead, of Canterbury College, secured fist-class honors in the second division of the Classical Tripos in his second year at Cambridge.
Mr Basil Thomson, son of the late Archbsihop of York, has succeeded Sir Melville Macnaughten as head of the Criminal Investigation Department, generally known as Scotland Yard.
The Rev. A. W. Payne, M.A., who for the past two and a half years has been reiding in Ashhurst, as vicar of the Pohangina -parochial district, has been nominated to the vacant parish of Patea by the Board of Diocesan Nominators, and will take up his new work in about two months’ time.
Mr J. B. Hine, before commencing his address in the Town Hall lastnight, made feeling reference to tin death of the Speaker, Sir Arthur Guinness. Sir Arthur had been especially a friend of young members of to whom he extended his help in all' matters on which they were not well informed. In that respect he was one of the best Speakers the country had had. Sir Arthur had made himself popular with all members, and he would be greatly missec. by all.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Richmond “Brooklands,” Midhirst, left by the, mail train, this morning on an extended trip to the Home Country and tfre Continent. From Wellington the tourists travel by the Maunganui to Sydney, where they join the Medina foi the rim Home. The decision to take the holiday and visit Mr Richmond s relatives in England was made only a week ago; indeed, Mrs Richmond who is well-known as a teacher of fourteen years standing in the district, part of which was spent at the Stanley Road School, resigned the position only last Friday. Many friends Will wish Mr and Mrs Richmond bon voyage. , Mr Richmond is re-visiting his home after an absence of 18 years. Mr Newton King is local agent for the P. and 0. Shipping Company.
