DOMAIN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. '' The .meeting of the Domain Board held yesterday afternoon was attended by Messrs W. P. Kirkwood (hi the ehair), T. H. Penn, E,. McK; Morison, P. Thomson, and G. Hunter (secretary).
On Mr Morison'e motion, it was decided to re-paint and re-letter the various notice-boards at the parks. Mrs Morgan, on behalf of the Anglican Church Preparatory High School ladies' hockey team, applied for permission to play hockey and baseball on King Edward Park.—Permission was granted subject to arrangements being made with the other sports bodies using the ground. Mr Penn brought up the matter of the grandstand in Victoria Park. The Board, he said, had previously discussed the matter, and had practically decided that it would be better out of the way.—Mr Hunter said there should be a lot of sound timber where it was protected from the weather. It was decided to submit the grandstand to auction for removal within two months.
Mr Penn expressed a hope that when the metal contract was finished the Borough Council would restore to good order the path to King Edward Park.—Mr Kirkwood said that dun ing the progess of the contract it was impossible to keep the path in good order, but it would be repaired when the contract was finished. Mr Kirkwood asked if it would not be good policy to cut off the dead limbs of trees in the vicinity of the Page Street entrance. The limbs were very unsightly.—Mr Penn said these limbs afforded shelter to other vegetation. Some cutting might be done on the right of the entrance to give a view of the river at the point.— No action was taken.
Mr Thomson said the gates leading to the parks were not very convenient for the passage of perambulators. He had had to help a lady to get a perambulatoir through the Cordelia Street gate, and it had been necessary to lift the gate off its hinges. The parks were designed as playgrounds for the children, and every facility should be given for the entrance of perambulators.—lt was decided that the gates be altered where necessarv.
Mr Thomson asked if the Board knew the boundary of the road running through King Edward Park? He thought that boulders for the Borough crusher were being taken from above the road line.—Mr Penn said the matter had been gone into previously. A committee had been set up to investigate, but found the land to be largely a "No-man's-land," though most of it seemed in the road.—Mr Kirkwood said that in the present position of affairs nothing could be done unless boulders were taken from above the bridge.
