THE SPEAKER'S FUNERAL.

LAST SCENE OF ALL. [Per Press Association.] Greymouth, June 13. To-day broke beautifully fine, and early this morning special trains froD Tekuini and the West Coast railway; began to pour in crowds of people. Their mournful mission was to pay tb* last tribute of respect to Sir Arthur Guinness, Kt., M.P., and Speaker oi the House of Representatives. Busi ness places, public offices and publi< and private .schools closed. The gath ering* included the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Mr Seddon, Mr J. Colvin anc 1 .Mr G. Witty, M.P.'s, the mayors, chairmen and members of local bodies for Ross in the south and Westport in the north..

The cortege was headed by brasf bands. The members of the Grey Harboi Board acted as pall-bearers. The hearse was burdened with flora tributes, including wreaths from the Cabinet, Liberal Party, members o:' Parliament, Messrs Herdman, Witty. Colvin and Seddon, the members o' the Westland Law Society, the chair man and members of the West Coast Harbor Board, the governors of tli High School Board, the mayors an< members of borough councils, the Westland, Grey and Inangahua Count} Councils, education boards, school committees, trotting and jockey clubs, friendly societies and the general pub lie.

The carriages in the cortege extend ed about a mile and a half. There war an impressive ceremony, and the las' solemn rites in the Church of Eng land were performed in the presence of a tremendous congregation by th< Yen Archdeacon York, assisted by Dr Black (Presbyterian), Thus was laid to rest the remains of a man honored and loved by all. The name will lonp be held in grateful memory.
