MORTALITY ON THE RAND.

MEDICAL SERVICE INADEQUATE.

The Government Director, of Native Labor, reporting on the high mortality in the Rand mines, states that the medical service is shockingly inadequate. Doctors refuse to pay night visits, however serious the case. Doctors attend the mine hospitals for an hour daily, and the natives are examined at the rate of one per minute.

The Director recommends Government action.
