DOMINION DAIRY SHOW.
A HEN CONVENTION. The entries in poultry during the three years the show has been in existence have varied very little—22s in 1910, 229 in 1911, and 227 in 1912. There is now no doubt about the convention of 1913 surpassing in numbers j and quality all previous gatherings, [ and some of the best birds in the Dominion may be looked for in the pens. That the poultry division is a popular one is proved by the large number of special prizes that are scheduled, no less than 63 having been contributed. In Hawera and surrounding districts there are breeders who have done remarkably well in the past, but there are indications that they will have a difficult task set them this year to maintain the position hitherto occupied by them. The cup presented by the Dominion Dairy Show for most points in this section was won by Mr J. Walker, of 'Auckland, last year. Should the same winner be again successful this year, the trophy will disappear as a prize for competition. In connection with the breeding trio class, it may be mentioned that the competition will be between a “cock and two females,” not a “cock and two hens,” as it appears in the schedule. To the uninitiated there may not
appear to be any difference; but the poultry breeder will realise what the alteration means. Entries close on Saturday (June 14.) Schedules and entry forms may be obtained on application to the secretary, Mr A. M. Conroy, Hawera.
