BALL AT MAHOE.

[prom our own CORRESPONDENT.] One of the most successful dances held in the Hall came off last Friday. Although the weather was the opposite of fine, it did not deter about 150 guests i from accepting the invitaion of the laides of their fancy dress ball. Many came from Hawera, Manaia, Stratford, Lepperton, Kaponga, and the other districts round about. The whole affair went off with a swing, and a go, and everyone enjoyed himself or herself thoroughly. Much credit is due to the Ladies Committee, especiall to Miss Riley, for the splendid way in which they carried out the affair. There was not a slow moment the whole evening. The Hall was tastefully decorated with curtains and evergreens, and looked extremely nice. A capital supper was provided, and good music was supplied by the Cooper Band. Dancing was kept up till 2.30 p.m. Many effective and striking costumes were worn. Perhaps the best lady's was that ofMiss Perry, of Hawera, who appeared as a Maori Maiden of high degree (the Princess "Mahuta"), and the best gentleman's that of Mr Bert Wishart, who dresß- • •<] ar, a "Chihkie." But the following also excellent: Miss Free, "Carnival Dancing Girl"; Mies Riley, "Bridge"; Mrs-Rogers, "Afternoon Tea"; Miss Gardiner, "Red Riding Hood"; Miss Cossey, "Paris Fashions" ; Miss Surman, "Spring" ; Miss Symes, "Harem Skirt" ; Miss Fanny Free. "Highland Lassie" ; Mies Phoebe Cleaver, "Folly"; and Mrs Mellow, "Roumania Girl"; Miss Free, "Zingara"; Miss F. Riley, "Dawn"; Mr C. Astbnry, "Cadet" ; Mr Cleaver, "Stratfrd Post"; Mr Loyell, "Santa Claus"; Mr Riley, "Gondolier"; Mr Gardiner, "Sambo"; and Mr E. Bennet, "Fireman."
