J On Friday last the Toko Oddfellow’s held a euchre party and' dance in the Coronation Hall in aid of the regalia fund, and it proved a great success. Some ninety players sat down at the euchre tables, and played for an hour and a half. For the ladies' first prize (a beautiful jewel case), Mrs I). Jones (Tariki), and Mrs O’Connor (Huiroa), tied with games, and in the play off Mrs Jones became the winner, Mrs O’Connor taking the second prize (a silverbacked hair brush and comb). For the gentlemen’s prize (a handsome looking glass) Messrs Flanagan, O’Riley, .Stanford, and Gray tied also with eight games. In the play off, Mr Gray secured first prize and Mr Flanagan second prize (a razor). No booby prize was given. An apology was received from the district officer (Mr C. D. Sole), regretting not being able to bo present, owing to other engagements. Brother Gornhoefer presented th e prizes to the winners. The hall was then cleared ami dancing commenced, the floor being in splendid order, some sixty couples taking part. Music was supplied by Mrs Bianchi, extras being kindly played by Mies Clark and Mr Foote. The duties of 31. C. were carried out by Brothers Gcrnhoefer and Caskey in a satisfactory manner. Sister Corbett bad charge of the supper room, and Mr J. A. Stanford carried out the. catering. The night was very cold, and dancing was kept up with great spirit till 3 o’clock, the last waltz being entitled (“For I Must Go Home To-night”). FAREWELL TO MISS ALLEN. On Thursday last a number of ladies gathered iu the Coronation Hall to hid farewell to Miss Allen before making- her departure from Toko. Miss Allen was a shop assistant in Mr Bain’s store for some seven years, and made herself very popular. Mrs J. B. Hine, on behalf of the Toko ladies, presented Alias Allen with a, silver backed brush and comb and looking glass, suitably inscribed, and wished her every success in her new home at Ohakune, where her relatives, reside. Miss Allen thanked all for the handsome presentation, and also for the kindness they had shown her while living at Toko. Afternoon tod was - handed round, and a very enjoyable time was..spent m singing and musical items. HALL COMMITTEE. The fortnightly assemblies that are run by the Hall Committee, in aid of the crockery fund are well patronised. The music is supplied by Mr Pearson, Huiroa. The committee are holding a long night on Friday (to-morrow), and if the weather keeps fine there should he a record attendance, i THE KING’S BIRTHDAY. The Union Jack wafj, noticed flying at the hall on Tuesday, and also at the school!in/honour of,our King.
