THE FEDERAL ELECT EONS. .RESULTS STILL IN DOUBT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.) Sydney, June 3. The only alterations in the election figures are that the “Noes” are leading in New South Wales regarding the referendum. in the Wakefield electorate, South Australia, winch was previously classed as a Labor gain, the Liberal is now leading by over 1500. The fights at lllawarra, where the latest figures give Labor a lead of 140, and Ballarat, where the Liberal candidate is leading by 14, arc still going strong. A large absentee vote is still to bo counted, and is expected to favor the Labor man at Ballarat and the Liberal at lllawarra. It is anticipated that a recount will be asked for in each case. In the event of Labor winning both seats it will give tiie Government a majority of
Sir William Lyne and Sir John Quick are definitely defeated. To-day’s progressive scheme has ,iot affected the position of the parties, though the absentee votes are yet co be counted. In almost every elec.orate these are not regarded as likely to do more than vary to a more or less extent the individual majorities already established. The Senate figures also tend to emphasise the position already notified. The referenda returns, though, show i slight affirmative majority, too unrenresentative a& yet for any deductions to be made.
