Mr Lloyd George, speaking on tho second reading of tho Financial Bill, intimated that ho strongly favoured tho appointment of a departmental committee, consisting of business men and some members of the House of Commons to enquire into tho existing system of income tax assessment, with a view to removing anomalies. The Westminster Gazette agrees with, several speakers to the Bill, and states that it is high time to revise and simplify the assessment, inasmuch as some pay too much and others.pay too little.

THE ANTARCTIC HEROES. Hr E. S. Montague, Under-Secre-tary for India in 1910, in reply to Colonel Yak, declared that the Secretary of State would not be justified in asking the Council of India for larger grants for Bowers’ mother and sisters. CASE OF LIEUTENANT STEWART.
