Two night porters in the Berkerly Hotel, Piccadilly, were found bound, gagged, and wounded. A large sar\ ~<i.s cleared of much jewellery. DETERMINED METHODS. (Received 10.0 a.m.) London, May 29. Four men entered an unlocked gar age in the early morning, and subse quently crossed an iron bridge, climbed a fire escape ladder, and entered tho window of the Berkley Hotel. They crept to tho entrance hall, and struck Cowers, a porter, from behind, inflicting terrible wounds about the head. When lie was unconscious they bound and gagged him and flumj him-on a sofa. They then attacked James, another porter, who struggled and was similarly treated, and was placed in an ante-room when unconscious.

The burglars opened the safe with n key which was apparently obtained from an accomplice* in the hotel, and stole £3OOO worth of jewellery ana money belonging to tho ladies in the hotel. They descended to tho basement, where they ascended in a baggage lift to tho street. Cowers was taken to the hospital, being seriously hurt,
