RAILWAY REVENUE.
NOETH V. SOUTH. [Per Press Association.! Wellington, May 26. In reviewing the operations of the New Zealand railways in the past yepr, the Hon. W. H. Herries said today that for the year ending March 31st, the railways had given exceedingly good returns. The approximate interest earned’, on the capital invested was £-1 Os 8d per cent., a return only once exceeded, in 1911, when the interest earned was £4 Is 3d. The heTcieutage of expenses 'to earnings was . 68.13, compared ' with 67.07 in the previous year, /inhere had been .an improvement in, the 1 interest-eafn-ing on the South Island lines, white' the North Island lines showed availing 1 off, which had forced the Minister to reduce the services that were 1 not paying.
