A SENSATIONAL ASSAULT.
A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE. [Per Press Association.] ■ / Hamilton, May 23. William Benson appeared before Mr Lawson, S.M., to-day, charged with discharging firearms at George Allen last night. It is alleged that Allen has been pestering Benson’s wife with attentions for some time, and was waiting outside Benson’s house last night. When Benson went into the road he states that Allen said to him “you have not seen anything.”- Benson replied: “I’ll fix you.” With that Allen is said to have jumped over a fence and come to grips with Benson, who drew a fully-loaded six-chamber-ed revolver and fired two shots at Allen, which went wide. Allen then overpowered Benson, wresting the revolver from his hand. He gave it to Constable Hanlon. Accused was remanded until Wednesday. Counsel appearing for accused asked for tail, and said that no actual bodilj harm was intended, as when Benson fired the first "-shot, his own wife was between himself and Allen. His Worship decided to grant bail in £230.
