PETTISH PREFERENCE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Beceived 8 a.m.) .Ottawa, May 23. In the Budget debate Mr Carvel 1 advocated an increased British preference. The new Conservatives opposed this because their alliance with the manufacturing interest drove Canadians to smuggle goods across the frontier to secure the advantage of cheaper American prices.
