WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.
[prom our own correspondent.] At a meeting of the Committee of the Whangamomona Bazaar on Monday night, it was decided to postpone the Bazaar from June to September on account of the former date not allowing sufficient time in which to work up such a big event. Che Ladies’ Committee are busy making and collecting goods and cash, and on all sides splendid progress is being' made. < I The Public Library has purchased, with the Treasury subsidy, a large case of new books, which are by far the best collection yet purchased. Mr \. Klee while on a visit to New Plymouth personally selected each book, and the thanks of subscribers are due io him. The Tennis Club’s dance on Frilay night ’ last was a great success. Che weather was beautifully fine, the Hitll tastefully decorated with ferns, ind the supper was excellent. There yas a good attendance, and dancing vent merrily until 2 a.in. Mr C. Marsh acted as M.C., and Miss Nickol and Mrs Reader had charge of the nipper arrangements. No move has yet been heard of the election of the new school committee here. At present we are without one.
The Mangare Road is again open for wheel traffic, the temporary tramway being taken up and transferred further up the.railway route. Bushfalling is in> full swing now. and several big contracts have been let, at prices hitherto not reached in Whanga district. Labour seems to ?;et scarcer and dearer every season. Messrs Cleland Bros have this weekdisposed of 1000 fat wethers to an outside buyer, the mob being taken by , road on. Tuesday last. On Thursday the Social Club held its usual weekly progressive euchre tournament. There was a good attendance at both the euchre and the dance following. The ladies’ prize went to Miss Flynn, and Mr J, Rodgers scored an easy win among the men. The “booby’s” were caught by Airs Millar and Mr P. Rodgers. Mr H. Cameron,' of Mr Newton King’s Stratford staff, has been appointed representative of the firm in this district, a move that will meet with popular approval here. Mr E. Hill, of Kohuratahi, and his daughter, Miss F. Hill, are leaving to-day for a holiday trip to Auckland and district.
