SPORTING.
TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE The Committee met at New Plymouth on Tuesday evening. The disqualification imposed by the Committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club on the mare Piriwai, in the Stewards Handicap at the club’s meeting on February 12, was approved. A jockey’s license was, granted to Tim Jones. The following dates for race meetings throughout the district were approved :—Taranaki, Jockey Club, December 2fl and 27, and February 11 and 12, 1914; Egmont Racing Club, February 4 and 3, and May 13 and 14,; Stratford Racing, Club, January 1 and 2; Opunako Racing Club, March 17.
WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. Wangamii, May 22. Fine weather, with a cold wind blowing, is being experienced for the opening of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s Winter Meeting to-day. There is a large attendance, and the track i» in good order. Results; — * Borough Handicap.—Postillion 1, lueuru 2, Grattan 3. All started. Postillion came fast in the straight, and won easily. Time, 1 min 15 4-5 sec. , Hack Seoplechaso.—Kauroa 1, Ranter 2, Fireworks 3. Scratched: Leolanter and Salopian. Fireworks was Makiri were the in leading division for the first mile, when Kauroa went to the , front. Ranter made a* big rush in the, last bit, and was only beaten by a nose. Time, 4min 18 l-6sec. Fireworks and Tyrannic fell.
Salopian broke his neck in the Hack Steeples. Wanganui Steeplechase.—Glenmore 1, Leolanter 2, Dorando 3. All started. . BraveSt'lod for the first half mile, then Glenmore took command and was never headed, winning by four lengths. There was good jumping, with no falls. Time, 6min 13 l-ssec. Hack Hurdles.—Morning 1, Goodwin Park 2, Watchchain 3. All started. Won by a length, three lengths between second and third, Serenity was fourth. Tim,®, 3ipin 18 ; l-5 sec.. Century Hurdles.—Bercola 1, St. Kevin ; Allure, 3, Scratched: The Native and Armagh. Won by a length.;! Time, 4min 20sec.
