The Society of Arts was crowded when Sir Joseph Ward delivered an illustrated lecture on New Zealand as a plage of residence. He dealt exhaustively with every feature of his subject, also with the social legislation, trade, improved communications, and sport. Lord Ba&sey acclaimed, paying tribute to New Zealand’s share of defence, mentioning that the donors at present were having the satisfaction of inspecting the battleship. The Hon. T. Mackenzie (High Commissioner), and Lord Plunket (exGovernor of New Zealand), made felicitious speeches. f
