AT THE ROYAL MARRIAGE. A GORGEOUS SPECTACLE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] Berlin, May 21. The city is crowded with royalties for the Royal marriage. All the details were arranged by the Kaiser, who organised a marvellous pageantry and revived historic customs. After a long discussion at the last moment, it was decided to give the English and Russian sovereigns a grand military welcome. They will be attended from the station to the palace by large military suites. King George will arrive on Wednesday, and the Czar on Thursday. Arriving trains are loaded with princely guests from Germany, Austria and Denmark.
There will he a banquet on Thursday, at which the royalties, princes, field marshals, knights and Black Eagles will be entertained, followed on Friday by a family banquet.
THE CIVIL MARRIAGE. After the civil marriage on Saturday has been solemnised in the electoral room, in the presence of relatives, there will be a stately procession through the picture galleries and chapel royal. At a subsequent banquet the emperor, empress, bride and bridegroom will be served by the grand butler and chief cup-bearer, who are nobles. “THE BRIDAL PAIR.” After the first course, the Emperor will propose “The Bridal Pair.” Following the banquet, the traditional torch march will be Held, and a tour made of the principal salons, pages carrying wax torches acting as conductors.
The ceremony will close at nine o’clock, when the royalties will conduct the newly wedded pair to their apartment. The final act will be the dividing of the bride’s garter, consisting of a ribbon many feet long, among the guests. THE TROUSSEAU. The trousseau, though remarkable, is less costly than that of many millianaires’ daughters. It was all made in Germany. Tho wedding gown is of Kreford silk, specially woven, with touches oi rose pink to relieve the silver tones. The veil is made of silesia, and took a hundred workers for days and nights many weeks to finish, at a cost oi £2500. The bride’s handkerchief cost £BO. Several English detectives will afccompany King George, with a special eve to the suffragettes. 1 A large bodyguard of Russian police are already searching every nook and comer of the apartments.
KAISER’S GIFT TO THE BRIDEGROOM. (Received 8.45 a.m.) Berlin, May 21. It is semi-officially stated that the Kaiser’s principal gift will be the proclamation of Prince Ernest as the new ruler of the Duchy of Brunswick. THEIR MAJESTIES ARRIVAL. THE UNION JACK EVERYWHERE. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Berlin, May 21. In fine weather their Majesties arrived, and were welcomed by the Kaiser, the Empress, and many Princes. There are enormous crowds who are most enthusiastic. The Union Jack is flying everywhere THE KAISER’S CLEMENCY. (Received 10.40 a.m.) Berlin, May 21. Lieutenants French and Brandon, and Stuart (a solicitor) will bo released simultaneously with King George’s reaching Germany.
