Gangster, R. Dingle, R. T. B. Mellowi' W.' H.’ Were, D. J. Malone, B. Orr. Mr J. B. Hine, M.P., patron of the Society; was also present. The following report was submitted by the Executive ‘•Tlie 'Executive Committee has pleasure in reporting on the work of : the past three months as follows; - The Executive Committee has met ten times and the Advertising Committee three times during the period. The’ Gymkhana, which was held on Easter Monday, was a great success, and' resulted in a profit of £IOO for the' Association, which must be considered highly satisfactory.- The dairy farm‘ cofiipetition has been judged, and resulted in Mr A. D. Walker, of Ngaere, gaining first place, and Mr T. Webb second. In connection with this competition, the , judges complimented the Association on the excellent work it is doing in the district by running such a competition. The Grounds Committee has had some of the earth at tjie corner of Flint Road removed and spread over the grounds, and the Committee is arranging a working bee of members who are willing to assist in the removing of more of the bank. ’ In connection with the.recommendations from the last annual meeting, the Committee have to report as follows: —• “Re Stopping Train at Grounds. — The train has been stopped at times to allow of football teams alighting; but if it were stopped on Show days, the‘space for passengers to alight on would be too narrow and would congest the traffic to the great danger of all 'paSSengers. This being so, the Association have- approached the
Railway Department for the estimate of the cost of a siding at the Flint ydWd,' to allow ;us to disembark both passengers andf. stock. The Department’s estimath; tthe >- cost, .of same is £r>'jf)’ plus the 'cost of earthwork, and tbo Executive canpot ape its way clear co proceed furthejflin 1 tho* matter at present. “The Other RecommenOatibrt] ■-fe
Painting of Cattle and Sheep Pens. — fha cost of pdintiog, .these, .would, .be. approximately £6O, and the Committee cannot see its way clear to spend this sum. The' deterioration of the timber now, will if it were paißted, except at the
■ places where joints are made, and it would be too costly to remedy it now. “The Executive draw the attention of the Corifmftfee■•'•to . the necessity of' actively canvhssmg for new members, some of whpm you will be called upon to elect totday. The Executive being of the opihidn that this Association should be represented at the Conference of A. and P. , have affiliated with the Metropolitan body and has appointed Messrs Dingle, and J. B. Hine, as delegates to attend. A Northern A. and P, Association has intimated a scheme whereby each member do-
nated ft weftner calf to the Association, and the sale of these weaners realised some £3OO, and the Executive has hopes of establishing the scheme here. Already-Some ten weaners have been promised, and the Committee will be glad of the names of anyone else who is willing to donate. A standing advertisement board has been erected on
the grounds, near the railway line, advertising - the Show dates, on one ' side, and- the Gymkhana on the other. The'grounds are in excellent order, and have been leased' to Mr T. D. Ooleson again, at the same rental at last year.”
Xfl moving the adoption of the Exe-
cutive’s report/- the Chairman said that the'question of erecting a siding at the grounds was altogether too big a scheme for them to'touch.
Mr 1 W. T?-Kirkwood seconded the adoption of ‘ the f report, which was earned.
Mr J;'B." Richards referred to the great success of the Dairy Farm Competition, arid suggested that next year a scheme should be instituted by which each district should give a special prize for the best farm in its neighbourhood. The farmers of Toko for instance, could subscribe a few pounds''for 4 prize for the best farm in Toko, and'the same could be done in Ngaire, Cardiff, and Midhirst. The Chairriiaij thought this was an excellent suggestion, and everything would bo well if the farmers could be induced to' support it.
Dr. Carbery was elected a life member of the Association, and Mr W. H. Were was elected a member of the General Committee. Fourteen new members of the Association were elected.
The “wearer sale” was taken on by members with enthusiasm, nearly every farmer at the meeting offered to donate a weaner to swell the funds of the Association. Mr J. Brake dffered a guinea for the best weaner donated.
Mr Dingle moved that the following committee be set up to prosecute and rianvass of members:—Messrs J. B. Richards, C. Jackson, E. Jackson, R. 'Linn, J. Shatter, B. Orr, J. Belcher, W; V. Harkness, W. H. H. Young, and the mover.—Carried.
