AUSTRALIAN BANK NOTES.
THE numbering ceremony. In the presence pf the GovernorGeneral, the Prime Minister, members of the Dominions Royal Commission, and prominent citizens, Hon. Judith Denman, daughter of the Governor-General and Lady Denman, numbered the 'first Federal note at the note printing establishment, King’s warehouse, Melbourne. The note, which was of the value of ten shillings, was presented by the Piime Minister to the little lady who had performed the ceremony, and subsequently the Governor-General and Hon. Thomas Denman each numbered a note and were presented with, them as souvenirs. When Sir Rider Haggard was given an. opportunity to number the fourth note the Prime Minister announced that the distribution of souvenirs had ceased. A large number, of those present numbered notes. It is estimated that when the full plant is in operation 50,000 notes will be printed weekly. For a week o/- so only ten shilling note® will be printed, .as it is not considered advisable to print those if higher, denominations until the establishment is protected by a regular military guard.
