WHANGAMOMOHA NOTES.
[rnoM aun own coluiesrondent.] During the,past few days we have been having a goodly- share of Wragge’s storm “Trojan,” it being very wet and bitterly cold. The football match between Tahora and Whanga teams was postponed on Saturday owing to the stormy weather. The euchre party and dance was well attended op Thursday night. Play was very keen and close. Mrs Montgomery. was successful in winning a splendid hand bag for the ladies prize, and Mr J. McCluggage won the gentlemen’s prize, a silver platen! ’ shaving companion. The booby’s went to Mrs Jenkins and Mr P. Hedgers. Mr T;' Trask, while bushfelling, was struck in the eye by a flying chip and forced to take things easy for a few days. Mr' BertClaridge has gone to spend a short holiday in Stratford* before he settles down to the bush for the winter. , , The • Public- Works teams are doing short time at .present owing to the tram tunnel at Kohuratahi not being completed, and thus allowing of , material beihg taken right through to the big tunnel works at Tahora. However, the. line wil he clear in about a fortnight’s time, after which work ' will buzz.for the winter. Mr R... Anderson has opened a boot shop in' Harris’s buildings on Mam Street., The. Tennis Club, dance is to be held bn Friday..niglit;;n<?xt, and every effort is' being, made to ensure a successful. gathering.; thq dull is a very live institution . and has most,ambitious ..plans, laid for. the coiping season. Miss Erina Hunter, of Stratford, is spending a few weeks here, ;i\ith Mrs ,H.'Strombom, . To-night (Tuesday) we. are to have a visit .from the Rt.. Rev. Bishop Crossley, of Auckland. A service is to be held in the Hall, and the question of erecting ..an, Anglican Church here > will be ' discussed.. Advance Whangql Mrs M-. G, Fargiq is at present m Palmerston North, where she is undei the doctor’s care, and, ivill. probably have to undergo..a -seriods operation. .Mrs Fargie’s many,; friends, wish hbr a speedy return to health. Miss -A. Mankelow, of Inglewood, is spending a holiday, here with Mrs T. AylWard. Messrs Hodcler and London have almost completed the new Government cottage, at kohuratahi, which is to he the residence of Mr P. Keller, engineer in charge of Public Works here.
