HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Wellington, May 12. j The High Commissioner, cabling I from London under date the lOtli jinst., states:— I Butter.—The market is dull and declining. Largo supplies are coming forward. Last month imports were £s6,ls3cwts more than at the same time last year. Choicest New Zealand, small supply, 113 s; Danish, Ills; Siberian, l()0s; Australian, 107 s; Argentine, 104 s. Cheese.—The market is lifeless, and transactions in cheese are very limited. The stock is accumulating, and some holders of cheese are forcing sales. New Zealand white 58s, coloured 565. NEWTON KING’S STRATFORD WEEKLY REPORT.
At the Haymarket on Saturday last there was a fair attendance, but only a moderate number of pigs wore penned. There was a fair demand for all classes, and a clearance was effected at the hammer. I quote slips and weaners 6s 6d to 12s 6d, small stores 13s 6d to 15s, medium do. £1 18s 6d to £2 ss. Quantity of fencing posts and sundries at usual rates. At the Mart.—Poultry: Hens Is Id to Is 6d, roosters Is 6d, geese 2s to 2s 9d, turkeys 4s 6d to 6s 6d, ducks Is 6d to Is 9d, potatoes 8s cwt. Fruit—Apples 2s to ss, pears 3s 6d to 4s according to quality and size of cases.
