ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
Invercargill, May 12. F. M. Cochrane, accountant (42) was drowned in the New’ River on Sunday afternoon through a boat cap? sizing. His companion, Cecil Hazlett, made a plucky effort at rescue, and got him ashore, but life was extinct. I Wanganui, May 12T A young man named Spencer Abbott (21), a fireman on the river steamer Waiua, felj overboard on Saturday and was drowned about fourteen miles above Pipiriki. There was a flood on in tho river at the time.
