STRATFORD v. CLIFTON. Tho first of the senior grade matches to be played in Stratford this season will evenuate on Thursday, when Clifton meets Stratford on the Showgrburids. Kick off at 3 p.m. *■ ROVERS 8 v. OKATO 3. The Saturday Rugby Competition started bn Saturday,' when ' Rovers played Okato on the latter's ground. No brilliant exposition of the game was given. In the first half, Brown, by fast following up, scored a try for Rovers, which Thompson converted. Okato, playing with the wind, livened up considerably in the second spell, and in the first few minutes of play Malone kicked a penalty goal. Rovers then took a hand, and Webster scrambled over, scored, but no try was awarded. Loveridge had better luck, and, though well collared by Malone, crossed Okato’s line and touched down in a handy position. Thompson’s kick failed. No-sido sounded with the score unaltered, Rovers thus winning by eight points to three. Mr J. Johnson was referee. PRIMARY SCHOOLS. STRATFORD BEATS INGLEWOOD.
Football commenced among the primary schools on Saturday, when despite inclement weather most of the matches were played. The local boys, who have been victorious for the last three yeans, and who hold the champion Shield, visited Inglewood, where, although their, team was very much weakened by boys leaving, school, they were successful, winning by the handsome majority of fifteen points (five tries) to three (a try.) The ground was heavy and sodden, arid the play suffered considerably, but Stratford put u j> a very good performance, the backs showing some combination, and the forwards working together well. In the first half Stratford played with the wind and notched two tries. In the second Sspell, niainly through good passing by Nolan and Kivell, six more points were immediately registered. Inglewood then scored, Stratford touching down again before time was sounded. The scorers were Stan Simmons, T. Dobson, J. Nolan, aiyl N. Kivell (2) J , while Ray Hobson scored for Inglewood. The May Medal Handicap was competed for by members of the Stratford Golf Plub on Thursday and SaturdaV last, but the Saturdayplajerg ’ were greatly handicapped by the Wet' weather which prevented many from completing their rounds. The results of the Ladies 'Handicap are not yet available, but, the cards returned in. the men’s competition show that Mr J, R. L. Stanford was the winner., Twenty-three competed. Scores:— ~ Gross.
