WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.

[from our own correspondent.] The, new school committee held a meeting on Saturday evening to elect officers, hut before any business was transacted the resignations of six out 0 f the seven members were laid on the table. It seems that since being elected there has been a good deal of dissatisfaction expressed regarding the views of a section of the public, and the committee deemed it wise to give all interested an opportunity to take a hand in school matters. It is considered likely that the Education Board will make arrangements for another election.

Mr and Mrs Schweiter, of Inglewood, are spending a holiday here with their daughter, Mrs B. Cutter. The final game of the Whanga. billiard tournament was played on Saturday night, when W. Harris played A. Jones for the gold medal presented by MrJ. Rothery. The game was 200 up, and with his score at 199, Jones looked a sure winner, hut was unfortunate enough to lose his turn by making a miss-shot, giving Harris, whoso score was 197, an easy winning shot. The game was witnessed by about 70 spectators, both players being well supported by keen “barrackers.”

.Mr J. Walker arrived hack from Canterbury on Saturday night, hut Mrs Walker, who is under the doctor’s care in Christchurch at present, will not ho able to return fpr .another month at least. Her many friends will, however, ho glad to learn that she is now out of danger.

The shooting season opened here last Thursday, and though a good many local sportsmen had the day off tramping the hills, only moderate bags are recorded. Pheasants seem scarcer- than usual, and very wild. On Friday a dance is to be held at Kohuratahi, and a series of dances and socials will be run there through the winter months.
