FOOTBALL.

TARANAKI RUGBY UNION

Tho committee of the Taranaki Union met last evening, when there were present: —Messrs Jas. McLeod (Chairman), Thomas Buchanan, Atkinson, James Garcia, and R. Skoglund (secretary). The Stratford Dietrich High School forwarded a late entry for a 2nd Junior team, tho reason for late application being that a difficulty was experienced in getting fifteen boys to travel.

It was decided to give Stratford tho dates previously allotted to Inglewood 2nd Juniors, who have not been able to raise a team.

The Stratford Football Club asked that, owirtg to the large number of Juniors being absent at the Territorial

camp, the junior fixtures he postponed for a fortnight. Resolved that no action he taken.

The Wanganui Rugby Football Union wrote re sub-Union:—“As my Union gave Wavcrley permission to form a Union, it is necessarily under our control. We have no objection to your players taking part in the competitions. We are pleased to note that your team will visit on June 3rd, and we will send our team to Hawera as requested on the 28th.— Received.

Mr J. Clarke, secretary of the New Plymouth Sport’s Ground, wrote with reference to . seating accommodation for the coming representative matches. ■ The Committee offered to erect seating accommodation, in the shape of a grandstand, to be covered in in case of a w:t day. An extra charge of sixpence or a shilling, according to the importance of the match to be made for those seats, this extra revenue to he taken by the Union and deducted from the loan money owned by the Sports Ground to the New Zealand Union. These seats would he numbered and would be reserved in a similar manner to the seats in the Theatre. “By this method,” the letter concluded, “You will see without extra cost to us or to you the loan will be paid, by the public who will, -receive a quid pro quo for the extra charge. Our committee, if you like, will undertake the sale of these reserved tickets and tho collection of the revenue from the grandstand seats proposed to bo erected.” The proposal was agreed to.

It was decided to ask the Hawera Winter Show executive to advertise the representative match ' with Wellington on their .posters ■ and in their newspaper space. <

IT those clubs, with the exception of To, Woya, would join a suh-nnion, then Te Wera would ba compelled to join or else get no matches .All the teams he had named could play each other. Mr A. Summerhays (secretary of the Te Wera Football Club) ,wrote stating that he had been instructed by bis committee that, nnfbrtunatolythey wore not in a position to comply with a request to join the Taranaki Union. He explained that at least three of their active members would be playing for the Stratford Club this year, which would mean that it would ho impossible for his club to raise a team worthy of the

name

On the motion of the Chairman it was decided that an Eastern Division ho formed, including clubs from east of Strathmore Saddle and Tunnel. Selectors for the Taranaki representative team were appointed as follows: Northern Division: Messrs Joe Thomas, H. J. Mynott, and T. Buchanan ; Southern Division: Messrs E. Burke, A. Lees and H. J. lAtkinsnu ; Saturday Competitions ; Messrs J. McLeod, J. Garcia, L. De Launay. Mr J. McLeod applied for and was granted a montlrs leave of absence, and Mr T. Buchanan was appointed deputy chairman.

Horace Whittington (Hawera) was re-instated from senior to first junior.

It was decided to accept with thanks the Pitman Cup for the Taranaki Schools Championship
