THE TAKAPUNA SHOOTING.
THE CASE PROCEEDIEXG. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, May 2. At the Police Court, Robert Jasper Crago, aged 18, was charged with the wilful attempted murder of Percy Robert Skeates and Bertie Hanna at Takapuna, on March 13. Crago negotiated with Skeates for tho purchase of a motor car, and went with Skeates and Hanna on a trial run to Takapuna, where it was alleged Crago ’eft the car, ostensibly to pick up a letter from tho mail. Returning, lie peppered Skeates and Hanna with revolver shots. Evidence was given that Crago stated to tho police that he won £3OO in a Tattersall’s sweep, and £IOO by betting on races. He borrowed £2b from a friend, and with this he paid Skeates for the car on the way to Takapuna. Skeates denied having received any iponey from Crago, tho arrangement being that tho latter was to pay on delivery at Takapuna. Evidence was given that Crago purchased a revolver, with which the shooting was alleged to have been done from an Auckland shop tho same day as tho affair occurred. The case is proceeding.
