LORD DENMAN’S EVICTION. ARRAN GEMENTsTfOR THE VISIT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, May 1. A large and representative gathering of citizens was -held in the Town Hail, the Lord Mayor presiding. It was arranged to welcome Lord Denman (Governor-General) on his visit on Saturday to review the cadets in such a manner as would suitably express the sentiments of the citizens towards the Governor-General. Mr McGowan (Premier) and other members of the Cabinet sent excuses for non-attendance. Speeches were made protesting .against the Government robbing New South Wales of.the Governor-General’s residence, and expressing the determination to wipe out the stain of the gross cast on Sydney by the Government’s .action, and to express loyalty to Lord Denman as representative for the Commonwealth of,Hia, Majesty the King. One speaker declared; “We can at least show that though Sydney will not be his residence .it has all loyal hearts.” A fund was opened to meet thecost of decorating the city. It was decided that a.procession of carriages and motor cars follow Lord Denman’s carriage.
