H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.
EXCURSION TRAINS. Air C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., recently communicated with the Hon. H. D. Bell, Acting-Minister for Marine, with regard to the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand, and as to what it was proposed to do with regard to railway excursions. Mr Wilkinson has received the following:— “Replying your letter twenty-fifth am obliged by your suggestion and will ask railway department to run excursions on previous day. Arrangements will be made as suggested by you for holiday excursion rates to New Plymouth on the 16th and the morning of the 17th Juno trom Hawera and all stations north of Hawera, also excursion —ets to Wanganui on Saturday, 14th. I greatly regret that it is impossible to extend the time of visit beyond one day. Every date is now allotted, and the whole days of second visit to Auckland are required for refit, coaling and provisioning prior to long voyage to Vancouver. „ AVith regard to suggestion of vessel voyaging by day along coast from Wanganui, it is essential she travel by night to give the full day at each place.”
