football. THE LEAGUE GAME. Wellington, April 28. The Rugby League’s report says: Endeavour was made to induce the English Northern Union 'to send a team to Australia and New Zealand during the coming season, but the parent body, while not in a position to do so, are likely to view the proposal more favorably next year. The progress of the game in New Zealand,” states the report, “ is steady.” The receipts of the team which toured Australia last year were shown to be £1250 3s Id, and the expenditure £1032 11s sd. The League commenced season with a credit balance of £557 9s, and finished with a credit of £393 10s 2d. The assets include loans to Auckland of £44. 7s Id, Nelson £6O, Hawke’s Bay £6O os, Wanganui £SO, Wellington £125 Is, and Canterbury £IOO. The receipts for the leading matches during the year were:—Auckland v. New Zealand £99, profit £67 19s; Auckland v. New South Wales, £449, profit £117; New Zealand v.
