ONLY AN EXPLANATION.
WORDS ACROSS THE TABLE
“If you’re dissatisfied with me, put somebody else in the chair,” remarked Cr McCutchan at the meeting of the Whangamomona County Council on Wednesday, the remark being the outcome of a breeze which occurred during the course of a debate on a notice of motion by Councillor Bacon. Councillor McCutchan, who was act-ing-chairman, had allowed Councillor Bacon to give his explanation for asking for a division on an amendment. The explanation took rather a long time, and savoured of another speech, of which the Councillor in question had already given several. Cr Coyne objected to Councillor Bacon introducing fresh mater, and the chairman decided that this must not he introduced by Councillor Bacon.
Councillor Bacon claimed that they had always been allowed on this Council to make explanations. Councillor McCluggage: You should never have been allowed to make any expla. ation on this matter. Councillor Bacon: If you are chairman you' speak; it you are not, shut up. . Councillor McCluggage: If you don't treat me civilly, I shall leave the Council table. Councillor Bacon: T don’t care ii you do. Councillor McCluggage; I’m not going to he “shut up” by Councillor Bacon. The incident then ended, or at ! h .'st the Council went on to other business.
