BOWLING.

FINAL OF THE BANNER

The final of the banner competition took place at Hawera yesterday, when New Plymouth, winner of the northern division, met and defeated Pihama, winner of the southern division, by fifteen points, and brought the banner to New Plymouth. The match between Mason’s and Smart’s rink was very peculiar. The Pihama skip was 9 up in the fouth head before New Plymouth had scored. H. Smart crept up a point at a time, and at the fifteenth bead was two up. He continued to score until the last head, when Mason scored three, and the game ended 20—12. The total scores wore 69—54. A progressive pairs match was played on the local green yesterday. Eight pairs competed, and McDonald and Ryan proved to be the winners. The green was playing keen, and the afternoon was a great success.
