GOLF.
OPENING THE SEASON.
ON THE STRATFORD LINKS. The growing popularity of the game of golf in Stratford was made evident !,v the large attendance on the links at the formal opening of the season yesterday. With fine weather and a good light the merry golfers spent a very pleasant afternoon, mixed foursomes being played for trophies presented bv the President’s wife. Iho President, Mr A. W. Budge, in a brief speech, heartily welcomed visitors and congratulated members on their good fortune in having such an ideal day for the opening of the season. He also expressed pleasure at again having the honour of performing the opening ceremony, this being the third year in succession he has performed the time-honored ceremony of driving a ball from the tee. It was a really great drive, and elicited loud applause. Mrs Budge’s trophies fell to Mrs Young and J. H. Thompson. Afternoon tea, which was provided by Mrs Budge, was greatly appreciated.
