PROPOSED VISIT TO CALIFORNIA

Wellington, April 23

At a meeting of the Management Committee of the New. Zealand Rugby Union to-night a letter was received from the New South Wales Union re the tour of the Maori team and enclosing the proposed itinerary and terms. The Maoris leave Auckland on June 2 and play matches in New South Wales and Queensland. It was decided to forward the letter to W. Parata and to inform the New South Wales Rugby Union that any profit accruing must be handed to the New Zealand Union to be disposed of at their descretion. The Californian University wrote asking for a New Zealand team to visit California this year. F. Cameron, of California, interviewed the Union regarding the same matter, but eventually it was decided to inform the University that the New Zealand Union could only deal with the Californian Rugby Union. Mr Cameron loaves here on Friday, and agreed to see members of the Californian Rugby Union on his return, and 1 get an official offer made to the Now Zealand Rugby Union.

i In an interesting article concerning the doings of Pearce, an Australian writer says:—“When our other champions and those seeking ehampioriship honors have gone to England the public has heard very little about their doings.. Letters from “them to*’the press were few and far between; 1 aM I six' weeks old by the time they arrived, so that the information contained in them was not of muclrTatne. Cables concerning their progress were a rarity, and their, friends, all keenly anxious learn tlieir movements, have had to make the best of an irritatingly slow and infrequent method of communication. Thanks to Pearce’s appreciation of his friends’ efforts and the thoughtfulness of his committee in Sydney, an arrangement has been come to between them whereby a cable will be received in Sydney every week dealing with the work and progress of both Pearce and Barry. Tiie news will be not only frest and -up-to-date, but it will be authentic. That Pearce has arrived’ in England strong and vigorous is satisfactory. The voyage appears to have • done him good, and with the spell he has obtained he should he ready to settle down to steady and effective work.”
