MUNICIPAL.

MR KIRKWOOD RE-ELECTED AN ELECTION FOR COUNCIL. Nominations for the office of Mayor and for vacant seats on the Borough Council and Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board closed to-day at noon. The present Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirkwood) was re-elected unopposed, and thus enters upon his second term of office. For the Borough Council there arc eleven nominations, and as there are nine seats, an election is necessary. Six of the present members are standing for re-election. A poll will be held on Wednesday next, April 30th. Following are the nominations:-

HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

FOUR CANDIDATES. The election of two members to represent the Stratford Borough on the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board will be held on the same date as the Municipal elections. Of the two la'sb year’s members,, Mr S. Ward is retiring, while Mr J. McAllister is j standing again. There are three other nominations. Following is the list;—

James McAllister, nominated bj Jonas Masters and James Frodric. Robert McKinney Morison, nominal ed by G. W. Mills and S. B. Hunter, J. Staples and Campbell Jackson. Courtenay Dotson Sole, nominated by James Fredric and R. H. Kivell.

Joseph Henry Thompson, nominated by Medial Casper Aagaard and W. H. Robinson.

New Plymouth.—The present Mayor 'Mr G. W, Browne), and Mr J. S. S. ?Jedley have been nominated for the Mayoralty. Fourteen candidates have been nominated for the twelve seats on the Council.

OTHER CENTRES. Palmerston North.—Mr J. A. Nash has been re-elected unopposed as Mayor for the fifth time. Fifteen nominations for the nine seats on the Council have been received. Marton.—Messrs J. H. Miles and J. F. Sicely have been nominated for the Mayoralty. There are twelve nominations for six vacancies on the Council. The Labor Party has nominated four candidates. Pahiatua.—Mr David Crewe, the sitting Mayor, and Mr T. J. D. Allson, ex-Mayor, have been nominated for the Mayoralty of Pahiatua. Only seven candidates have been nominated for nine seats on the Council, requiring fresh nominations .to be invited for the vacant seats. Dannevirke.—Mr E. A. Ransom has been elected Mayor of Dannevirke unopposed. There are fourteen nomi-| nations for nine vacancies on the | Council. Onslow.—Mr Frank Hjoldsworth (unopposed). Eastbourne.—Mr W. J. Organ (unopposed). Petone.—Mr J. AV. McEwan (unopposed) . Lower H«tt.—Mr E. P. Bunny (unopposed). Christchurch.— Three 'candidates •vero nominated for the City Mayoralty, the sitting Mayor, Mr S. Holland (Labor candidate), Mr T. J. McBride (Independent), and Dr. Thacker. Candidates representing the Citizens’ Association and Labor tickets have been nominated for the Central, St. Albans, and Lin wood wards.
