THE COMING EXHIBITION.
It is not altogether a surprising thing to find that most of the Taranaki County Councils have decided not to contribute to the proposed Taranaki Court at the Auckland Exhibition opening in December next year. If, therefore, representation depends on financial support given by councils and public bodies, there is very little chance of our taking a place. Only one County has agreed to contribute towards the cost, and in this lone instance, it has done so only conditionally that all other similar bodies shall also contribute. Of course the principal ground on which the proposal has been turned down is that they have no funds to spend from the making and mending of roads, though it lias been adduced in some few instances that if Auckland wants an exhibition she should pay the cost herself and that Taranaki has nothing to gain by the exhibition. We can scarcely agree with the latter rather narrow view of the position, for it is not what Auckland may require herself from Taranaki, but the good that may bo done by visitors from all parts of New Zealand, and even further afield, seeing for themselves what Taranaki is able to produce. Although, up to the present, no enthusiasm has been evidenced, wo sincerely hope that the good work of those who have interested themselves so greatly in the effort to ensure that Taranaki shall be well represented at the coming exhibition will not be without result.
