TERMINATING BUILDING SOCIETIES.

Owing, we doubt, to many counterattractions in the way of entertainments and other meetings, there was only a small attendance of the general public to hear the address given on Monday night by Mr E. Russell Jones, past chairman of the Auckland Building Society, upon the subject of “Terminating Building Societies.”

Mr Jones gave an. interesting and informal talk upon the matter, and displayed a thorough mastery of the subject, making quite clear the various points of importance in the working of these Societies. Ho also demonstrated conclusively the tremendous amount of good terminating building societies do, both as regards the individual members and also the community at large. In Auckland, for instance, the Society has lent to its members over £600,000, of which some £250,000 has been paid. It has, in fact, placed a most important part in the development of the Northern City. J 1 1-., ' r" .
