THE ORINGI CAMP.
‘‘NOTHING I OFFENS^‘” ( \ H , (While in Danncvirke Af 'fhe'effd'of last week, Police Inspectdr’ 'O’Ddnovon made exhaustiv r e enquiries into the recent statements concerning the visit of a crowd of Territorials, encamped at Oringi, to that town. On Tuesday night, lie said, about 250 men landed in Danncvirke by the 7.15 p.tn. train, and lycst jjf'these were JoJithsj under the age of tweiftykme. These latter were consequently not able to be supplied with liquor at the hotels. There w;as no drunkenness, op the streets. The places .ot, amusement were not open at that hour, and the men paraded the streets in groups, some, of course, indulging in the usual horseplay and monkey tricks, but no damage was done to the township. According to the local police, the men had committed no breach of the peace, and had used no offensive behaviour towards others, as complained of. They departed for the camp at 8. (0, and while entraining two panes of glass in a carriage were broken unintentionally. During the journey the men indulged again in their horseplay. Amongst the crowd six men were under the influence of drink, and a few flasks of whisky were visible amongst them. No passengers were molested or interfered with.
“It is just what one would expect,” the inspector concluded, “amongst a crowd of young fellows. I saw some of the leading citizens of Dannevirke, and they rather deprecated the reports which had been sent out.” The parade state of the Taranaki Regiment is as follows:—A Company (Xcw Plymouth), Major Fletcher and Lieut. Crutch and 44 men; B Company (New Plymouth), Captain Boon, Lieut. Hartnell and 02 men; C Company (Patea), 57 men ; I) Company, Inglewood, Major Leech, Lieuts. Gilbert and Thurston and 65 men; E Company, Eltham, 49; F Company (Hawera), Captains Bishop and Cox, and 22 men ; H (Stratford), Lieut. Winder and 33 men; medical corps, .Captain (Dr.) Home and 24 men; Taranaki Garrison Band, Conductor Cummins and 24! men. Colonel Malone is commanding I officer of the, Regiment.
