Soudy quitted his cell, and shouted “Au revoir.” Callemin, trembling and staring dazedly at the crowd, exclaimed, “This is a beautiful death for a man.” Monier ejaculated, “Good bye.” The three executions occupied four and a half minutes. “THOU SHALT NOT KILL. Lines of guards barred all the streets leading to the prison to prevent any attempt at rescue. Monier bequeathed a number of philosophical works to the Municipal Library, and his revolver to the Museum, with instructions that “Thou shalt not kill” be engraved on the butt.
