SENT BACK TO ROTO EGA. Auckland, April 20. 1 John Paton Miller, ex-detective, concerning whose committal to Roto Roa Island in September last there has been some agitation for rehearing his case, was taken into police custody to-day, to be returned to Roto Roa for not having complied with the terms of his probation.
The conditions of bis release was that he take out a prohibition order against himself for twelve months, and not to be convicted for any breach of the order during the period. Miller states he declined because he is not a drunkard, and has never been charged or convicted for drunkeness, and because the application for rehearing the charge of habitual drunkenness was based on the ground of others stating that ho was a man of intemperate habits. On appeal to the Minister he was warned that he must return to the island, or the license liberating him would he revoked, and, declining to do so, the police were compelled to take action. > THE WRECKED MANAROA. ..Wellington, April 2,1. The passengers, and crow of the wrecked Manaroa arrived in Wellington on Saturday. The steamer lies in an exposed position, and to refloat her would lie 'a ’ difficult undertaking. The impact was very severe, and water war. made immediately. From the point where the vessel struck to where she lies is about three miles. The Manaroa was insured in the London and Lancashire Office for £2OOO.
