CARE OF THE KINE.
[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir,—A week or two ago one of your correspondents wrote to you of Mr Massey’s visit, and stated that Mr Massey would probably be shown a few of the nice, well-sheltered stock sheltered farms, but not those whose only shelter was the barbed wire fence. He drew a dismal picture of stock trying to obtain a cosy corner where no corner could be found, in r ich a night as, say, the 13th of April, 1913, when the very houses and tiie beds therein shook with the violence of the gale. Sir, I felt a strong vein of sympathy with the sentiments 1 expressed by your correspondent, and | wished it were possible to touch the* ! heart of a parental Government and ! ( impel those, who otiierwise will not, , t > provide adequate shelter for the ! ]: lor dumb animals from whose pro--1 dace this far-famed district gets its : r ime. One would think that the Soj ciety for the Prevention of Cruelty to i Animals would extend their operaI lions to the dairying district. But | rarely it is but want of thought—- | t' o merciful man is merciful to his beast; and when one considers that they are creatures, of the Creator
given to man who has in his nature the image, the reflection of the Creator, to exercise upon them that care and affection which is inherent in him for man; the tender of herds is made in the image of God. Now, sir, to bring this down to the physical plane and so remember our divine nature, may I urge that the folk who depend upon the kiue for a living, plant shelter trees in such abundance that this district will become a veritable Garden of Eden, and meantime, while trees grow, will they not rug their milch cows? A few ,do it, why stir us to compel the rest?—l am, etc., HUMANITARIAN. Stratford, 14.4.13.
