Tlx© Press this morning says it has private information that the new General Manager of Railways is Mr Ernest Havifland Hiley, divisional goods manager of the North-Eastern railway at Newcastle. Hiley is-the son of a clergyman, and is-43 years of age. He Was educated at Rossal.—P.A. DENIED BY. THE PREMIER. [Pfen Press Association.] ' Wellington, April 18.
The Premier, interviewed with regard to the Christchurch telegram announcing Mr Hiley’s appointment as manager of railways says: “No appointment has yet been made, but probably a meeting of the Cabinet will bo held this afternoon, at which this matter will he considered.
