The wife of Commander Evans, of the Terra Nova, underwent an operation at Naples, and is in a critical condition.—London cablegram.
The death of Thomas Jayes, the Leicestershire cricketer, from consumption is announced by cablegram from London.
Mr A .C. Lawry has succeeded Mr E. H. Young as managing clerkin Mr T. C. Fookes’ office. Though recently from Auckland, Mr Lawrey is well-known in Taranaki, having been five years in the Deeds Office at New Plymouth.
Three American ladies, Mesdames Futrelle, Harris, and Thorne, all of whom lost their husbands in the Titanic wreck, will commemorate the anniversary of the great shipping catastrophe in a novel way. Towards the middle of this month they will sail from Boston for England, their departure from the American port lining so aranged that they will reach the scene of the disaster on the anniversary of the date on which the Titanic foundered. Then, in the dark'ness of early morn, they will eacli reverently cast a wreath into the sea.
