Foster approves of tho alteration of ibhe leg-before rule if it only applies to off-side bowling, but says that the present rule should be retained to discourage leg break bowling. He also suggests a smaller bad of tho same weight, which would enable the bowler to impart a larger break on hard wickets.

WELLS V. CARPENTER. Paris, April 16. Bombardier Wells and Carpenter have been matched for tho twentyeighth at the Cirque de Paris. BOXING. Concerning Thomas, the Ngaire boxer, who defeated Sugrue at the recent Manawatu Boxing Tournament, The Manawatu Standard’s boxing contributor has the following to say:— “Thomas, an ex-pupil of Professor Jack Stagpoole, fully earned for himself the good name given to the writer by the Professor. This lad has only been boxing a few months, and if taken in hand by a good instructor, will be a tough nut to crack.” TENNIS.
A match between the Whang&momona and Te Wera tennis teams was played at Te Wera on Friday. The weather was all that could bo desired, and a very pleasant day’s tennis was enjoyed.
