STOCK REPORT
At Strathmore on Monday ne had a yarding of about 100 cattle and a few sheep. Competition was quiet at the hammer, hut vve cleared the whole yarding of cattle after. We quote;— Weaners mixed 36s 6d, forward cows £5, bull £3 15s. At Stratford on Tuesday we had a fail yarding and good attendance. Bidding was good throughout and most of the stock was sold at the hammer. We quote: Weaners (small) £1 to £1 7s, weaner steers £1 7s 6d to £1 16s 6d, do. heifers 32s 6d to I.‘fe, coloured weaner heifers (small) 19s to 49s Gd, do. good £3 2s to £3 11 s 6s, empty heifers £3 2s 6d to £3 15s, in-calf heifers £4 10s to £5, springing heifers £7 to £7 15s, store cows (poor) 30s to; 50s, fresh cows £3 5s to £3 18s, springing cows £6 to £7 Iss, bulls £4 8s to £5. Private sales as follows.—Mixed weaners 34s 6d to 38s 6d, coloured weaner heifers 55s 6d, 595, £3 2s 6d, nice line of 50 choice Holstein weaner heifers £3 12s 6d, Jersey weaner heifers £3 15s, store cows £3 10s, £3 13s, £3 16s, forward do. £4 2s Gd, 21-year in-calf heifers £5, £5 ss, £5 7s 6d, 2-tooth ewes 15s 'Gd, 4 and 6tooth ewes 12s 3d, f.m. ewes 10s Gd, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 14s 6d, lambs Bs, 8s 9d, 8s lOd, 9s, 9« Gd, small do. 6s 6d.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Wednesday, 2nd instant, we hold our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards, when there was a small yarding of 670 sheep and 111 head of cattle. Prices were as follows: Lambs 8s to 8s 6d, f.m. ewes (poor) 3s Gd to os, fair quality stuff up to 8s 3d, -1 and G-tootli ewes 14s, 6-tooth wethers 15s; rams (poor quality) 12s 6d, fair quality up to 4)- guineas, weaner steers (fair quality) 3os, Jersey and Holstein weaners up to 50s, 18-months steers (poor quality) 595, empty 18months heifers 645.
On Tuesday, Bth instant, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when their was a medium yarding of 450 head of cattle and 122 sheep. The weather was very cold, and this considerably detracted from the yarding, but notwithstanding this, the attendance was good, and with the assistance of some of our Ohura and back country clients wo made , 9, { fair clearance at the following prices:—Weaner heifers (poor quality) up to 265, Jersey and (Holstein, heiferd (fronh 37s 6'd''to' 50 k, small Shorthorn steers (pool- VjtrilAy) 21s up to 44s for fairly gootFswiff) ‘2O- - Month steers 62s to 85s for and good steers, 18-month empty heifers 63s to 72s 6d, 20-month heifers in calf 74s to 92s 6d for good -stuff, 21,-year-old heifers (nice line) made from 137 s (id to 1455, 2,|-year-old steers 87s 6d to Dss, store cows (low condition) 59s to 82s bd for good stuffy fat and Tdrwafd’ mip to 10ls, bulls from 60s to 100 s. ,
We held: epur usual monthly two.ol, slciu anti hide sale on Tuesday,. Bth insfc., when the usual atrendance i buyers were present and competition was fairly brisk though not quits,so brisk as at previous sales. We offered 12 packages of wool, 247 sheepskins, 8 packages of tallow, and small quantity of hides and calfskins, prices being; Pieces up to Cfd; crutchings, and stained Bijd to-9d, lambs’ wool, oifd to Gd; lambs’ wool, little seedy biddy, G*d to Bfjd, other packages,little sold at full rates. Horse hair to Is 9d per lb. Pelts, fair quality, Is Id to 2s Id, pelts well wooded up to 8s 4d. Sheepskins, poor pelts but good wool, 3s Gd to 4s Gd. Tallow up to 23s Gd. Calfskins, sn\all and poor quality, 7d to 9fd. Cowhides up to Bjjd, yearling hides up to 7d per lb. Since we last reported we have sold a considerable quantity of stock privately at the following prices: Lambs, Ss 2d to 9s 3d ; ewes, 2-tooth up to 15s Gd; 6-tooth ewes from 12s Gd to 14s Gd; mixed weaners from 37s to Ids ; 18-rnonth empty heifers G4s to 72s Gel; rams 1 to 2 guineas. Wellington, April 11. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 10th instant:— Wheat. —Wo have sold an Australian cargo at 38s 3d c.i.f. The market is firm and there is a fair demand owing to Continental buying. The outlook is encouraging. Wo quote per quarter c.i.f. New Zealand wheat: Long-berried 375, short-ber-ried 36s Gd. Oats.—We quote Cartons 245, Spvrrowbills 23s Gd. The outlook is uncertain. MATTHEWS, BENNETT AND CO’S REPORT. Matthews, Bennett and Co. report a fair yarding in their Inglewood yards last Wednesday. Bidding was slov on must classes, with the execution of coloured weaner heifers, which sold readily. Prices as follows; Store cows £2 10s to £3 ss, forward do. £3 14s to £4 Gs, hulls £5 to £7, small do. £2 15s to £3 10s, coloured empty heifers £4, weaner mixed 21s to 28s, coloured weaner heifers £2 18s to £3 15s, weaner steers i good) 28s to 32s Gd, f.m. ewes Gs 3d to 7s Gd, 4 and G-tooth ewes 15s.
