RIVAL UNIONS

In the Arbitration Court Mr Justice Heydon, in refusing an application to vary an award, severely criticised tho attitude of unions to one another. The application showed how far they woul go to get boards constituted to suit themselves, without regard to anyone else. Specialising in a certain case, he said that it a board were constituted which suited the applicants it was “What a fair court! What a just judge!” but if it did not suit, then it was “What an injustice! what an outrage! We have been refused a tribunal to redress.our grievances. We will strike.” “Such” continued the judge, “is love, and such is the mercy rival unions show each other.” A POSSIBLE COMPROMISE. Sydney, April 11. The Barrier Labor Federation pas sed a resolution to telegraph to the tramway directors asking whether they will agree to the Federation’s terms. Failing a reply the dispute to be referred to an industrial board, and the men to remain out until the board gives a decision. Although there is nothing official, it is believed that the company’s reply to the first part of the question will be an emphatic negative. i
