Tho'Governor, 1 Lord Liverpool, attended by General this afternoon reviewed the troops of the Auckland brigade now encamped on the Cambridge Show grounds. The troopon parade numbered about 2600, comprising Engineers, Field Ambulance, the 3rd Auckland Regiment, the Gtli Hauraki Regiment, the loth North Auckland Regiment, and the 16th Waikato Regiment. They were beaded by Brigadier-Colonel C. T. Major and Captain Melville (Brigade Major). Other officers present included dolonel Logan (Commanding the Auckland district), and Colonel Herd (Director of Military Training). The camp, which started last week, is the largest yet held in tho Dominion, and ,vill conclude on Saturday. The pro ceedings to-day were witnessed by a •rowd of 5000, and it was astonishing to observe the proficiency already attained by the troops, since training commenced. Tho march past was carried out most meritoriously, and the Governor, on tho conclusion, cornalimented tho regimental officers on the successful results of their efforts. His Excellency subsequently left for Wellington. The conduct of the troops whilst in camp has been exunplary, and with perfect weather prevailing throughout all. have enjoyed tho outdoor life, even if the work lias been arduous. The final opera Lions to-morrow will include a sham light around Maungakawa bills in the presence of General Godlcy. Next week the 3rd Auckland and 4th Waikato Mounted Rifles will start their camp on the same ground. The military authorities are so enamoured of Cambridge as possessing ideal facilities for camp and training purposes that it is possible that tho annual camps for the Northern District will bo held at Cambridge. Last night the Brigade officers were entertained by the local citizens and settlers at dinner. Colonel Logan, responding to the toast of the New Zealand Forces, referring to the risk of invasion, stated that it was because Nw Zealand was a country so well worth defending that it was probable it would have to be defended at no distant date. Tho training of tho defence forces of New Zealand was accordingly a matter for most series thought for those in authority.
