Tile executive of the Northern Colliery Employees’‘Federation in their reply to the proprietors’ porposals regarding Lambton B and Sockdale boresay- they are prepared to accept a tribunal comprising representatives of each side and an independent chairman, and callow resumption simultaneous with the opening of the proceedings before the Boards on the un-derstanding-that'the awards would be retrospective from resumption, but they, do - not agree to any method of settlement which does, not give the Federation equal rights with the proprietors. They decline to take a ballot, stating that they know the minds of the men 1 -sufficiently well to enable them to answer for them. The fourth week for the South Coast miners’ strike has begun and there is no prospect of a settlement. Dissatisfaction is felt at Bull! -at the conference not being held as arranged by Mr -Carmichael dor Friday. It is reported that Bull! decided, il Mr Carmichael gives a second invitation, that they will send delegates on their own account and interview him.

The ultimatum for the proprietors is having a depressing effect in Bulli. Discontent has manifested itself among the milk and ice carters in Sydney. No particulars are forthcoming regarding' the reason. The award of the Railway Traffic Board will he published in a day or two; it-is believed that it gives porters eight shillings a day, with 8s 6d at the end of twelve months and 9s at the end bf two years. It is anticipated that the increases will make a difference in the strike situation.
