MAN COLLAPSES SUDDENLY. [Per Press Association.] Napier, April 7. John Peter Lanning, a single man aged 27, died last night on Petane Road. He had been but all day in a motor boat, which broke down. On his return a high wihd drove the launch up tlie inner harbour, where it )vent ashore. Lanning attempted to 'keep it Abating tb save damage Ari hour later ho showed signs of collapse. His mates carried him to the shore, hut he died before medical assistance could be obtained.. The night was wild, cold, and wet. It is thought that death resulted through heart failure, brought about by exposure.
FELL FROM A TRAM
Christchurch, April 7
Adelaine Edith Ooombes, aged about 25, residing at Papanui, was killed by a fall from a tram last night. When approaching the Sawyer’s Arms Road stop, she evidently thought the car stopped, jumped off and fell on her head. PROTEST AGAINST UNSUITABLE SCHOOL BUILDING. Feilding, April 7. Mr F. Pirani, Chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, to-day received the following telegram from Raurimu: “Show here to-day. School children nearly frozen.” The explanation is that the Education Department persistently refused to accede to the request of the Board to provide suitable building, but compels children to meet in a hall built by the Public Works Department, and which is totally unsuitable as a school.”
